Grand Bahama Power Company supplies electrical power to the island of Grand Bahama from West End to Sweeting's Cay in the east. Grand Bahama Power is a totally integrated utility company serving the island's 45,000 residents.

Grand Bahama Power Company Limited will strive to be a quality organization, committed to cost-effective generation, transmission and distribution of electricity to its customers, while providing a safe and rewarding work place for its employees and a reasonable rate of return on investment.

The Company seeks to accomplish this objective by: striving for a work environment in which there is an atmosphere of mutual trust; fostering continuing improvements within the organization; seeking appropriate, timely solutions to problems in cooperation with customers and suppliers; being a good corporate citizen.

The utility has a gross installed generating capacity of 140.75 megawatts (MW). The maximum demand for electricity on the island in 2001 was 71 MW.

Power generation is provided by nine units:

  • Three No. 6 oil-fired steam turbine generators, with a gross capacity of 73.75 MW.
  • Two No. 6 oil-fired slow speed diesel engine driven generators with a gross capacity of 27 MW.
  • Two simple-cycle No. 2 oil-fired combustion turbines with a gross capacity of 35 MW.
  • Two No. 2 oil-fired medium speed diesels with a gross capacity of 5 MW

Electricity is transmitted from the power generation facility on Queens Highway to the company's 17,800 customers via four 69 kV transmission lines, seven 69/12.5 kV sub-stations and twenty-one 12.5 kV distribution feeders. The distribution system includes 60 miles of 69 kV transmissions lines 220 miles of 12.5 overhead distribution lines 30 miles of 12.5 kV underground distribution lines and 175 miles of low voltage conductors.

The company employs approximately 200 people
