Grand Bahama Power Company

Future Generation

Grand Bahama Power has been actively exploring and pursuing various options for minimizing the impact of rising fuel prices on electricity rates for our customers.

New Plant

Emera, Grand Bahama Power’s parent company, is currently building a new state of the art diesel generation facility. When complete in the summer of 2012, the $80 million generation facility will be more efficient than current generation facilities and will significantly improve reliability, reduce fuel consumption and stabilize electricity costs.

The new plant is being built at no base rate increase to customers due to a new rate structure granted by the company’s regulators, the Grand Bahama Port Authority. It will provide 70 jobs for Bahamians during peak construction and approximately 35 permanent job opportunities for Bahamians after completion.

Alternative Energy

Grand Bahama Power, like many power providers, is reliant on oil, which is fuelling the soaring cost of electricity. Our team is actively researching alternative energy options that could help reduce costs or reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, and ultimately the price to customers.
