Hurricane Safety

• Check your house and roof to ensure they are in good condition.
• Never touch fallen power lines.
• Know the location of your hurricane shelter.
• Check containers for water.
• Check batteries for radios and lanterns.
• Clear your property of any loose material.
• Check your home and contents insurance policy.
• Check your canned and dry goods supplies.
• In the event you lose power during a storm you can listen to local radio stations for status updates. Don’t forget you can also call our 24 hour help line, 352-8411 for assistance. 
• Store at least a two-week supply of water for each member of your family. Store at least 2 quarts of water per person per day. Children, nursing mothers and ill people may need more. You will need additional water for food and hygiene. Never ration water, drink the amount you need today, and try to find more for tomorrow. You can minimize the amount of water your body needs by reducing activity and staying cool.

Here are some important items to have before the Hurricane arrives:

• Foods (canned goods & nonperishable foods) that do not need cooking.
• Drinking water in non-breakable containers (at least 2qts. Per person/ day).
• Special dietary food if required.
• Identification, cash, valuable papers, insurance policies & photos in a waterproof container.
• Extra batteries for radio and flashlights.
• Battery-operated radio with an all weather radio.
• Books, magazines, cards, toys & games
• Personal hygiene items, such as: soap, deodorant, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, aspirin, antacid, diapers, washcloth, products, towels, etc.
• Infant care items, such as: formula, food, wipes and disposable diapers.
• Personal aids, such as: eyeglasses, hearing aids, and batteries, prosthetic devices, etc.
• First aid kit, which includes: Prescription medications, gauze bandages, adhesive tape, sterile pads, band aids, triangular bandages, safety scissors, nonprescription medication, etc.
